Zelensky: we need all people from Mariupol - both civilians, military

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine will continue to take steps to evacuate all Ukrainians from Mariupol and the blocked Azovstal plant.

"Of course, we will continue to do everything in order to get all our people from Mariupol and Azovstal. It is difficult, but we need everyone who remains there. Both civilians and military. There was not a single day that we did not deal with these issues, that our people did not try to resolve this issue," Zelensky said in a video message on Tuesday evening.

According to him, on the eve of the evacuation, it was possible to agree with Russia on an almost 3-day preliminary ceasefire, but now the Russian side does not comply with these agreements.

"We managed to resolve the issue of a ceasefire for almost three days, so that the humanitarian corridor would work. Now the Russian troops do not adhere to the agreements. They continue massive attacks at Azovstal. They are trying to storm the complex," he said.

"But I was told many times that it would not be possible to save a single person, that it was impossible. Today there are 156 people in Zaporizhia. This is not yet a victory, but already a result. And I believe that there is a chance to save all the rest of our people," the president said.
