Russian leaders staying in Crimea unacceptable – Ukrainian Foreign Ministry

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has protested against Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev staying in Crimea, which has been temporarily occupied by Russia, the press service of the ministry has reported.

"Medvedev staying on the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea is a blunt disregard of Ukraine's state sovereignty by Russian authorities, as well as a proof of Russia's violation of the UN charter, principles and norms of the international laws, this country's conscious disregard of its international obligations," reads a statement issued by the ministry on Monday night.

It also reads that the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has noted the impermissibility of Russian high-ranking authorities staying in Ukrainian sovereign territory, within its international recognized borders including the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, without prior agreement with Ukraine.

"The requirement to mutually approve visits is based on the commonly recognized international practices, which are built on unconditional respect of other states' sovereignty," the ministry said.
