National Guard soldier to face trial for high treason - prosecutors

A serviceman of the National Guard of Ukraine from Chernihiv will stand trial for the transfer of confidential information to representatives of the Russian special services, the press service of the Chernihiv regional prosecutor's office has reported.

"The pre-trial investigation has been completed in a criminal case opened against a serviceman of a National Guard unit from Chernihiv who deliberately, through a Russian Web site, transferred information about soldiers and officers from his unit, including those who were in the area of the anti-terrorist operation, to representatives of the Russian special services," reads the report released on Wednesday.

The prosecutor's office said that this soldier had passed information on the size of the unit, contact information and home addresses of servicemen, plans on defending the territory of military camps, call signs, radio frequencies, combat units of the regiment, and its documentation.

"Such actions by the soldier are seen as high treason (Part 1, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The indictment in criminal proceedings was sent to court on October 14," the prosecutor's office said.
