Ukraine should urgently adapt state food safety control system to EU standards - Yanukovych

The adaptation of the state control system for food safety to the EU standards is one of Ukraine's strategic tasks, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said.

"The task, the integration to the single global economic space sets to us, is firstly the adaptation of the state control system for food safety to the European legal requirements," Yanukovych said in Kyiv on Friday when speaking at the Ukraine palace at the ceremonial gathering dedicated to the day of agricultural workers.

"It is impossible to delay this issue. This is the guarantee of competitiveness of our agrarian products at the global market," Yanukovych said.

Another strategic task in the context of reforming the agricultural sector is introducing modern and efficient legal basis, which will allow drawing long-term loans in the agricultural sphere, the Ukrainian president said.

"Amid the global economic instability and limited financial resources the state will increase the efficiency of the support for the agriculture production," Yanukovych said.

Supporting livestock breeding, creating conditions for organic production, developing financial and technical leasing and endorsing farms and agricultural servicing cooperatives are the priorities of state policy, the president said.

"A lot of work is ahead and the tasks we have are not simple. But I am convinced that we will cope with them jointly," Yanukovych said.
