The Palestinian Authority is asking Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovych to help stop Israeli aggression against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.

"We appeal to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych with a request to quickly intervene and put pressure on Israel to stop this aggression and to protect our citizens from Israeli military attacks," Palestinian Ambassador to Kyiv Mohammed Alasaad said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.

The diplomat said that the Palestinian Authority demands that the international community organize an emergency discussion of the situation and take actions to stop the Israeli aggression.

"We demand that all countries should start to take swift actions, intervene and put pressure on the Israeli authorities in order to stop the aggression immediately. They should also support Palestine's appeal to the UN General Assembly with a request for Palestine to obtain the status a non-member observer state of the organization," he said.
