Defense Ministry, Customs Service find out that military didn’t receive humanitarian aid worth more than UAH 170 mln

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in cooperation with the State Customs Service of Ukraine, identified potential risks of illegal use of humanitarian aid in the amount of UAH 171.8 million based on the results of joint internal audits from March to July 2024.

"In particular, according to the State Customs Service, for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 424 units of vehicles passed through customs control; 476.23 tonnes of goods of various names without specifying the cost; 6.2 tonnes of food and plastic pellets. However, the department found it difficult to confirm the receipt of this nomenclature by military units," the press service of the Ministry of Defense reports.

The ministry noted that the Ministry of Defense sent appropriate notifications to law enforcement agencies to assess the legality of the actions of individual officials on the grounds of illegal enrichment, embezzlement of property and abuse of official position. According to these facts, the investigation is ongoing.

"We highly appreciate the promptness of passing military and humanitarian aid across the border for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during martial law. Our task is to ensure that every element of assistance, from a thermal imager to a car, provided by volunteers and international partners, reaches our defenders on the front line. We will continue to improve control and reporting mechanisms to ensure transparency and efficiency of the use of humanitarian aid," said Colonel Oleksandr Titkovsky, Acting Director of the Internal Audit Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
