AvtoKrAZ to supply another 60 repair kits to Cuba
Public joint-stock company AvtoKrAZ (Kremenchuk, Poltava region) as a part of long-term cooperation with Ministry of Construction of Cuba has signed a new contract on supply of 60 repair kits for KrAZ fleet upgrade with Cuban company Konstruimport, reads a posting on the Ukrainian company’s Web site.
The press service of AvtoKrAZ told Interfax-Ukraine that this year this is a first contract on supply of repair kits this year.
According to the report, a large-scale Ukrainian-Cuban project was launched over five years ago - in November 2008.
The project was initiated by the Ministry of Construction of Cuba that proposed to AvtoKrAZ to upgrade old trucks most of which were the KrAZ-256 dump trucks being in service over 30 years. By that time, the fleet of the Ministry of Construction of Cuba numbered several thousands of old KrAZ trucks. Some trucks were inactive because of worn down parts and units, but most vehicles of the Cuban fleet were still in service due to a huge amount of structural strength.
The upgrade project involves the replacement of the old wooden cab with metal one and the replacement of worn out parts and units. Parts and units for the replacement are used from the KrAZ-6510, a successor of the famed KrAZ-256B.
Repair factory KrAZ-SOMЕС established in Cienfuegos can upgrade about 200 trucks a year. Since 2009, KrAZ-SOMЕС has upgraded over 300 units.
Until 1992, Cuba was the biggest importer of KrAZ trucks. Since 1960 about 10,000 units have been supplied to the country.
AvtoKrAZ makes 33 basic vehicle models, and more than 260 modifications and trim levels of civilian and military vehicles. The company's trucks are in use in more than 60 countries. About 80% of its output is exported.
In January-July 2014, AvtoKrAZ produced 610 trucks, which is almost 44.2% up year-over-year.
AvtoKrAZ is part of the Finance and Credit financial and industrial group, controlled by Ukrainian businessman Kostiantyn Zhevaho.
