Klymenko: Economic section led by Arbuzov plans to emulate Ukrainian national team's achievement in Montenegro

The economic section of the government has prepared the foundations that will soon help the country surprise investors with positive economic changes, as the Ukrainian national football team did by beating Montenegro 4-0 away, Income and Tax Minister Oleksandr Klymenko has said.

"We have to move forward, we need to make a breakthrough, and we understand that... Thanks to the coordinated work of the economic section, for which First Deputy Prime Minister Serhiy Arbuzov is responsible, this plan is already being implemented," Klymenko said at a conference "ABC: Ukraine and Partners" in Kyiv on Thursday, while commenting on a statement made by Managing Partner at Ernst & Young in Ukraine Alexei Kredisov.

Kredisov praised the government's intention to achieve the improvement of positions in world rankings, similar to the World Bank's Doing Business or Transparency International‘s Corruption Perceptions Index.

"Our progress in the rankings is necessary, but I'm afraid that it's not sufficient to say that our country is a place for investment," Kredisov said.

As an example, he cited a 4-0 away victory by the Ukrainian national football team over Montenegro, when, after Montenegro beat Ukraine in Kyiv 1-0 and took leadership in the group, all bookmakers bet on the Balkan country, and the probability of Ukraine's winning the match was lower than ending it in a draw.

"The expectations of Ukraine were very low, and we got the 'wow!' effect when Ukraine hammered [Montenegro] 4-0. I think that we can achieve the same effect: the world will talk about it, and newspapers will write about it. It's necessary to play to our strengths: shale gas, the agribusiness, and the IT sector," Kredisov said.
