Serbian Embassy resumes its operation in Ukraine
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleksandr Mischenko accepted copies of the credentials from Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Ukraine Andon Sapundzi and congratulated the diplomat on the beginning of his mission in Ukraine, as well as the resumption of the work of the Serbian Embassy in Kyiv after the start of large-scale aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
As reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Deputy Minister expressed his determination to further develop and strengthen friendly Ukrainian-Serbian relations. The interlocutors exchanged views on the development of political dialogue between the two countries, strengthening cooperation within international organizations, supporting the Peace Formula and the Victory Plan of Ukraine.
Mischenko expressed gratitude to Serbia for its support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and the assistance provided to Ukraine, and also expressed the expectation of a more active position of Serbia in condemning the aggressor country, Russia, which defiantly violates the norms of international law.
In turn, Sapundzi assured of Serbia's readiness to continue to help Ukraine overcome the consequences of Russian aggression and confirmed his intention to promote the further development of friendly relations between Kyiv and Belgrade.
On March 3, 2022, after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia announced the temporary closure of the Serbian embassy in Ukraine for security reasons for its employees. The staff continued to carry out their duties from Belgrade until conditions for return became possible.
Diplomatic relations at the embassy level between Ukraine and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia were established on April 15, 1994.
As reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accepted credentials on Monday from the ambassadors of Serbia, Saudi Arabia and China who began their diplomatic mission in Kyiv. He congratulated the ambassadors on the beginning of their diplomatic mission in Ukraine and spoke with each of them.
