Egyptian embassy holds reception to mark the 72nd anniversary of the revolution
The Embassy of Egypt in Ukraine has held a reception to mark the 72nd anniversary of the revolution.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Ukraine Ayman Elgammal held a diplomatic reception to mark the 72nd anniversary of the Revolution of July 23, 1952.
As reported by the embassy, the event on the occasion of the holiday was attended by heads of diplomatic missions of foreign states, representatives of the leadership of government bodies, including the Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa Maksym Subkh, Islamic religious figures, members of the Egyptian diaspora, educators and cultural events.
"The trade balance between Egypt and Ukraine before the coronavirus pandemic and the current war amounted to $2.1 billion, and in 2023 it amounted to about $1.3 billion. Egypt still remains Ukraine's main trading partner in Africa and the Middle East and the seventh trading partner in the world, and the beginning of this year shows progress in returning the trade balance to pre-war levels," Ambassador Elgammal noted during his speech.
He emphasized that Egypt and Ukraine have a long history of cooperation in the space sector, and the first Egyptian satellite was developed and built in Ukraine with the participation of Egyptian experts.
In his speech, the diplomat focused on the modern history of Egypt, in particular, the wars of 1956, 1967 and 1973, when a significant part of the territory was occupied and the country, like Ukraine now, was subjected to severe trials. However, Egypt managed to liberate all its lands not only by military force, but also by diplomacy, by appealing to the International Court of Justice.
The Ambassador noted his country's unwavering position in supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine since 2014.
"Egypt believes that no conflict can be resolved by military means alone, because diplomacy plays a primary role in resolving any conflict, so we took part in the "Arab Ministerial Liaison Committee on the Ukrainian Crisis", created by the League of Arab States and at the initiative of African presidents after the outbreak of full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine. President Al-Sisi during the COP27 Summit appealed to world leaders to work on a peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine," Elgammal noted.
On July 23, Egypt celebrates a national holiday – Revolution Day of 1952, as a result of which the feudal-monarchical regime of King Farouk was overthrown and a republic was established.
In 1953, Egypt was proclaimed a republic. Since 1971, the official name of the country is the Arab Republic of Egypt.
