Ukrainian athletes win 11 medals on day 6 at Paralympics, bringing total number to 72

Ukrainian athletes bagged 11 medals on the sixth day of the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro on September 13: five gold medals, two silver and four bronze, the press service of the Ukrainian Paralympics Committee has reported.

Thus, the total number is 72, including 27 gold medals, 21 silver medals, and 24 bronze medals.

On September 13, the gold medals were the trophy of Vasyl Kovalchuk (Shooting, Mixed R5-10m Air Rifle Prone - SH2), Yelyzaveta Mereshko (Swimming, Women's 400m Freestyle - S6), Yevhen Bogodaiko (Swimming, Men's 200m Individual Medley - SM7), Maksym Krypak (Swimming, Men's 100m Freestyle - S10), and Oksana Zubkovska (Athletics, Women's Long Jump - T12).

Natalia Iezlovetska (Athletics, Women's 400m - T20) and Dmytro Vynohradets (Swimming, Men's 50m Freestyle - S3) bagged silver medals.

Maksym Veraksa (Swimming, Men's 100m Breaststroke - SB12), Oleg Naumenko (Wheelchair Fencing, Men's Individual Epee - Category B), Yevheniia Breus (Wheelchair Fencing, Women's Individual Epee - Category A), and Maryna Lytovchenko (Table Tennis, Women's Singles - Class 6) won bronze medals.

Ukraine's Paralympic national team now ranks third in the overall medal count in terms of the number of gold medals, after China and the United Kingdom.

What is more, during the Rio Paralympics, Ukrainian athletes set 13 world records, seven European records and 12 Paralympic records.
