KYIV. Oct 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Kirovohrad Regional Oncologic Early Treatment Center and Medstar Solutions have launched a system of distance care for cancer patients using telemedicine technologies.

The Honorary Head of the National Association of Ukrainian Oncologists, MP Kostiantyn Yarynych said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine that the project provides for remote consultations with specialists from Kirovohrad Regional Oncologic Clinic with the possibility of transmitting the results of examinations, including radiological studies of computer tomography and magnetic resonance tomography.

He noted that telemedicine technologies make it possible to provide highly specialized medical care in the conditions of an acute shortage of medical personnel.

"I think that telemedicine technologies will allow us to solve this problem. Sometimes there is no specialist nearby who can decipher the data obtained in the course of examination in a local hospital. If there is the possibility to enter the platform created today, the doctor can send these data to Kirovohrad Regional Oncologic Clinic, where there are doctors providing such consultations," he said.

According to Yarynych, the oncology telemedicine system also provides for the possibility of holding consultations.

"Previously, telemedicine was presented as just a Skype conversation. But now it's the transfer of objective survey data, the possibility of using the patient's medical history," he said.
