KYIV. May 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) - A number of Ukrainian public figures have initiated the creation of the People's Tribunal in Ukraine as an alternative to the Anti-Corruption Court. They say it will help overcome the "clan-oligarchic system" in the country.

"We are taking a public initiative to establish the People's Tribunal, which would investigate the crimes of the highest state officials," a dissident and member of the initiative group Stepan Khmara said at a news conference in Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.

The representative of the initiative "Public Civil Administration System" Viktor Zherdytsky noted that the People's Tribunal will have to form a system for determining and identifying criminals, as well as delivering sentences to those criminals who acted against the national interests of the Ukrainian people for all the years of Ukraine's independence.

"The criteria are simple: they wanted to benefit or harm the Ukrainian people," he said.

According to the proposed concept, the competence of the People's Tribunal includes actions that contain signs of crimes against peace, war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, both direct and "hidden."

Initiative group member Nazar Mukhachev said the People's Tribunal needs judges, jurors, prosecutors, and defenders.

According to him, the candidate for the People's Tribunal must be a citizen of Ukraine, take a "clear and unconditional Ukrainian-centric patriotic position, especially with regard to the Maidan, the war against Russia and the oligarchic system. Applications from people employed by anti-Ukrainian structures and organizations, including communists and former members of Party of Regions, will not be accepted.
