Ukrainian defense minister, NATO secretary general discuss military reform
Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels on Thursday.
"During the meeting, [Poltorak and Stoltenberg] discussed the entire range of issues pertaining to Ukraine's interaction with NATO in the context of counteraction to Russia's hybrid war and the reform of the Ukrainian military command structure and armed forces in line with NATO standards," the Ukrainian mission to NATO reports.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry reported that Stoltenberg had said at the meeting that the alliance would continue providing comprehensive support to Ukraine to ensure its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said also that NATO welcomed Ukraine's efforts to reform its security and defense sector and remained its reliable partner in this process.
Poltorak informed Stoltenberg on the security situation in Ukraine and steps that its leadership is taking to normalize it. During a NATO-Ukraine commission meeting, the minister informed its participants on the military-political situation in the country, the armed forces' activities, and other components of the national security and defense sector and steps to reform it, the ministry said.
The participants in the meeting determined priority areas and practical steps to promote the alliance's cooperation with Ukraine to develop its armed forces' capabilities and conduct systemic reform in the defense area.
