Yanukovych lists new perinatal centers, better emergency medicine among priorities
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has named the construction of perinatal centers and improving emergency medical services as being among the country's priorities.
"We believe that first and foremost we should create conditions for mothers to give birth to children, and overcome the problems that arise from various pathologies, and we will do it," he said during the ceremony to open a road junction in Sevastopol, when speaking about social problems in Ukraine.
The president said that Sevastopol had recently implemented several major projects aimed at solving social problems of the city. In particular, a new building for city hospital No. 1 and a perinatal center were built.
According to Yanukovych, although the emergency medicine still leaves much to be desired, Sevastopol has made a significant progress in this area.
"We will continue to improve emergency medical services, which is also our priority," he added.
The president promised that special attention would be paid in Sevastopol to the problems related to cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
"We are currently paying special attention to these matters and will install necessary equipment in our hospitals to create all necessary conditions for preventive treatment and timely surgical intervention," Yanukovych said.
