Lytvyn tells head of OSCE observation mission about election campaign

The chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, Volodymyr Lytvyn, has said he thinks that the main task facing the country today is to hold fair and free parliamentary elections in Ukraine on October 28, 2012.

According to the parliamentary press-service, Lytvyn said so at a meeting with Head of the observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Audrey Glover.

Lytvyn was asked by members of the mission to analyze the Ukrainian electoral legislation and the course of the election campaign in the country.

He said that the law on elections was not perfect, as deputies "of two sorts" will work at the Verkhovna Rada. Lytvyn said deputies elected in majority constituencies would work actively with voters, while deputies elected in party tickets will be oriented only to their party leaders.

According to the politician, such a situation will do no good to political structuring of the society.

In addition, he mentioned the problem of trust between the participants of the election process.

"They will always talk about vote violations until the parties achieve the necessary level of mutual trust," Lytvyn said.

The parliamentary elections in Ukraine will be held on October 28, 2012.
