Metalist to face Schalke 04 in Champions League playoffs

Metalist Kharkiv will face Germany's Schalke 04 from Gelsenkirchen in the final play-off round of the 2013/2014 Champions League.

The draw for the Champions League playoffs was made in Nyon on Friday. The first match will be played on August 20 or 21 in Germany, and the return leg will take place on August 27 or 28 in Kharkiv. The winner will win through to the group stage of the Champions League.

Schalke took fourth place in last season's Bundesliga. Metalist makes its debut in this season's Champions League and has already defeated Greece's PAOK in the qualifying round.

As reported, on August 2, the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne decided to deprive Metalist of bronze medals for the 2007/2008 season. However, Metalist and Karpaty were not deprived of nine points in the 2011/2012 season, therefore the standings in the Ukrainian Premier League remain unchanged.

On August 6, UEFA initiated disciplinary proceedings against Metalist, with the case to be heard on Tuesday, August 13, at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland.
