Metalist to strengthen its squad ahead of Champions League, first vice-president says

First Vice-President of FC Metalist Kharkiv Kostiantyn Pyvovarov has said that the team will definitely strengthen its composition ahead of the upcoming participation in the 2013-2014 Champions League qualifying stage.

"Strengthening is necessary in any case, as the Champions League is still a little different in level than the Europa League or the Ukrainian Premier League. And investment and new transfers are needed to achieve a worthy performance. I'm not ready to say now who we are planning to buy, and I'm not ready to disclose the amount. This issue will be resolved in summer, and I think that we'll realize these plans before the qualifying rounds of the Champions League," he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.

Speaking about Metalist's winning the silver medals of the Ukrainian Premier League, Pyvovarov said: "This is an incredible event, when, for the first time in twenty years, second place was not taken by Shakhtar or Dynamo. It was taken by another club that advanced to the Champions League zone. This will go down in the history of Ukrainian football and it's a pleasure to be involved in such events."

As reported, on May 19, Metalist, for the first time in history won the right to play for a place in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, leaving Dynamo Kyiv without the chance of participating in Europe's top football competition.
