Raider attacks in Ukraine caused by loopholes in legislation, experts say

Kyiv, November 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Loopholes in Ukrainian legislation facilitate the realization of raider attacks, political analyst, Berta Communication Director Taras Berezovets has said.

"The essence of raiding is in using gaps in laws," he said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine in Kyiv on Friday.

However, the expert said that the Ukrainian legislation does not define the notion of raiding.

Berezovets said he believes that the interagency anti-raider commission should focus on submitting to the Cabinet of Ministers of a relevant draft law that would regulate the fight against raiding and legally define this notion.

He forecasted that companies that might fall victim to raider attacks could include those with their own property and real estate, including hotel and entertainment businesses, IT business, as well as municipal, state enterprises, and social facilities that are poorly protected.

"Raider attacks are usually caused by a strong political lobby, often that of certain parties," said Berezovets.

Chairman of the Committee for Entrepreneurs' Protection Serhiy Kolomiyets, in turn, said that up to 30 raider attacks on enterprises are carried out in Ukraine every month.
