Almost 80% of Ukrainians celebrate Christmas on Jan 7 - poll

Most Ukrainians celebrate Christmas on January 7 and consider it their favorite among New Year's holidays, according to a survey conducted by Rating Sociological Group on January 2-4, 2021.

According to results of the poll, 77% of respondents said that they celebrate Christmas on January 7, 15% said that they celebrate this holiday twice, both according to the Julian calendar (January 7) and the Gregorian calendar (December 25), only 3% celebrate Christmas only on 25 December. At the same time, 5% of Ukrainians do not celebrate Christmas at all.

So, most of all those who celebrate Christmas twice, or in a new style live in western regions and in Kyiv.

56% of respondents said that Christmas is their favorite among New Year's holidays. 28% said it was New Year, 6% - St. Nicholas Day, 3% - Old New Year.

In the course of the CATI (computer-assisted telephone interviews) survey, 2,500 respondents were interviewed based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers. Audience: the population of Ukraine aged 18 and over in all regions, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas. The sample is representative by age, sex and type of settlement.

Error of representativeness of the study with a confidence level of 0.95: no more than 2%.
