Ukraine's prosecutors neither confirm, nor deny authenticity of Yanukovych special confiscation ruling published by Al Jazeera

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) neither confirms nor denies the authenticity of text purported to be the ruling of Kramatorsk's district court on March 28, 2017, on the special confiscation of $1.5 billion from the criminal organization headed by disgraced ex-President Viktor Yanukovych, which was leaked by the Al Jazeera TV channel on January 10, 2017.

"We neither confirm nor deny the authenticity of the document published as a result of the Al Jazeera investigation. I draw your attention to the fact that the Ukrainian-language documents is not signed or stamped," Deputy PGO chief Yevhen Yenin said at a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday. He added that the authenticity of the document would be determined after the competent state agencies analyzed the document.

As earlier reported, Al Jazeera published a 95-page text of the verdict of a military court in the east Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk dated March 28, 2017, which was later classified as containing a state secret.

The court verdict is posted on the TV channel's website both in Ukrainian and in English.

Al Jazeera alleges, citing lawyers and anti-corruption activists, the verdict issued without participation of non-resident companies in secret session gives grounds for these companies to reclaim part or all of the $1.5 billion recovered under the special confiscation procedure.
