Prisoner exchange in Donbas to take place at Mayorske checkpoint
The exchange of captives scheduled to be conducted in Donbas on December 27 will take place at the Mayorske checkpoint located on the division line near Horlivka, Donetsk region, the website Hromadske reported on Wednesday, citing its sources.
According to the site, 16 prisoners have already been sent from Luhansk, which is uncontrolled by the government. Fifty-eight prisoners will be sent from certain areas of Donetsk region uncontrolled by the Ukrainian government. Prisoners have already been taken from a colony in Makiyivka, but their number is unknown.
Iryna Gerashchenko, first deputy speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, who represents Ukraine in the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine, said she hopes the planned hostage exchange will be conducted on Wednesday.
"We want everyone to have a good successful day today. We are convinced that the difficult work that all parties have done to make that [exchange] happen [...] will yield results today," Gerashchenko told reporters in the city of Kramatorsk, Donetsk region, on Wednesday.
