Zelenskyy on lowering of draft age: We heard signals about it from some leaders

Ukraine has heard signals from some partners about lowering the draft age, but this is not honest talk, as modern warfare requires modern weapons, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said.

"We have heard signals from some leaders that we should lower the draft age. I believe that today this is not an honest conversation. I said this publicly and not publicly to the leaders," he said in an interview with Le Parisien published on Wednesday.

According to the head of state, modern warfare is not just about trenches and "not just in a trench with a machine gun."

"It's about modern weapons, drones, artillery, long-range weapons. It's aviation. Without the cover of the sky, how can you storm, go forward. And the leaders know this," he said.

Zelenskyy noted that it is important to protect the lives of soldiers, but for this purpose it is necessary to pay attention to the technological sophistication of the army, not to the age of the military.
