Ukraine from June 1 appoints Ukrinterenergo seller of electricity to Crimea, reduces prices of electricity

Only state enterprise Ukrinterenergo will be able to buy electricity on the Ukraine wholesale electricity market from June 1, 2014 to supply it to the occupied territories of Crimea, the Cabinet of Minister has passed the resolution.

According to resolution No. 148 of May 7, 2014 published on Thursday, Ukrinterenergo will sell electricity to Crimean enterprises under bilateral agreements and national energy company Ukrenergo will keep a separate balance for the electricity sold to Crimea.

In addition, Ukrenergo will restrict supplies to Crimea on the basis of an address of the wholesale supplier of electricity if there are no bilateral agreements signed or the conditions on the payment for electricity are not observed.

In addition, the Ukrainian government has banned the wholesale supplier from buying electricity from producers located on the occupied territory of Crimea and pay to them, including debts.

According to the resolution, Crimean generating and power supply companies from June 1, 2014 will buy and sell electricity under the prices agreed with contractors.

As reported, until recently Ukrainian power was supplied to consumers in Crimea via power supply companies DTEK Krymenergo and Sevastopolenergo, which bought it on the wholesale market. In addition, the wholesale market bought electricity at high tariffs from alternative power generating facilities (wind and solar power plants).
