Ukraine, Hungary agree to hold meeting of Joint Intergovernmental Commission – Sybiha
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha and his Hungarian counterpart Péter Szijjártó have agreed to hold a regular meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission.
"During the talks, we also coordinated the next steps for the development of border infrastructure, which will contribute to the establishment of trade and economic relations between our countries. In this context, it is important to hold the next meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, and we have agreed on this with my colleague," Sybiha said at a joint press conference following a meeting with Szijjártó in Budapest on Monday.
The Ukrainian minister emphasized that one of the key priorities for Ukraine is EU integration. He expressed hope for Hungary's continued support on this path.
"An important step in this context was the opening of accession negotiations. We count on Hungary's further support on this path, both during the current EU Presidency and beyond. In particular, in support of the opening of negotiation chapters in parallel," Sybiha said.
He also said that active work on the development of the contractual and legal framework continues to contribute to strengthening cooperation and create new opportunities for interaction in areas of common interest.
"I am grateful to the Hungarian partners for mutual attunement to constructive dialog and development of pragmatic and predictable good-neighbor policy," Sybiha said.
The ministers also discussed the whole range of issues of bilateral cooperation "from very sensitive and complex to new promising issues."
As reported, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha is on a working visit to Hungary on September 30.
In the afternoon, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said that negotiations ended between the Ukrainian and Hungarian foreign ministers in Budapest in a one-on-one format. The meeting lasted about an hour, twice as long as planned. After that, negotiations in an expanded format with the participation of delegations began.
