Sochi Olympics' website gets over 100 mln visitors

The official website of the Sochi Olympics has had over 100 million visitors during the Games according to Microsoft in Russia.

The Games' website and other portal solutions were deployed in Microsoft Windows Azure. During the project, two mobile applications were developed on the Windows Phone platform, Official Sochi Guide for the 2014 Olympics and Sochi 2014 Results, which were downloaded one million times, the company said.

Most of 100 million visitors to the Sochi Olympics official website were from Russia, the United States, Canada, Ukraine and France, according to Microsoft. During peak times the website had over 175,000 visitors at any one time, who generated more than 90,000 requests per second.

The total number of website hits during the Games topped 500 million.

Apart from the official website of the Olympic Games in Sochi, there were other Internet projects dedicated to the Games. In particular, Yandex, an Internet company, launched the Winter Games 2014 website (o14.yandex.ru).

Some 260 million hits of this project's pages were registered during the Games, the company said. Furthermore, Yandex reported 300,000 downloads of the Medals application (which provided updates on the latest medal wins). About 156,000 downloaded the application version for iOS and 147,000 downloads were for Android.
