Ukrainian military prosecutor's office issues notice of suspicion of high treason to ex-first deputy commander of Ukrainian navy Yeliseyev
The Ukrainian military prosecutor's office of the southern region has issued a notice of suspicion on desertion and high treason to the former first deputy commander of Ukrainian navy Sergey Yeliseyev, who is currently the deputy commander of Russian Baltic fleet.
"Ukrainian vice admiral [Yeliseyev] is reasonably suspected of desertion in February-March 2014 by violating his military oath to help facilitate foreign occupation of Crimea and of further service in the armed forces of the aggressor state. [He's] also suspected of facilitating sabotage against Ukraine while serving as Deputy Commander of Russian Baltic fleet," the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine said in a statement on Tuesday.
Yeliseyev has received a notice of suspicion under Part 1, Article 111 and Part 1, Article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason and desertion).
"The military prosecutors' office of the southern region of Ukraine is to start the procedure of a special investigation and trial in absentia of the traitor," the statement said.
