Moscow awaiting Britain's explanations over Russia Today news agency's account closure at Barclays – Russian Foreign Ministry
Moscow has demanded London's explanations over the closure of an account belonging to the representative office of the Russian state news agency, Russia Today (RT), at one of Britain's banks, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
"Russia has demanded that the British authorities urgently explain the situation around the closure of the RT representative office's account with Barclays in London," the ministry said in a commentary posted on its website.
"This situation creates an obstacle to the biggest Russian news agency in the UK," the ministry said.
"No notice or warning was received by the Agency, its representatives have not been informed about the fate of the funds on the account," the ministry said.
"Our information is that the account was closed because of the sanctions imposed on RT General Director Dmitry Kiselyov," the ministry said.
