Zelenskyy instructs officials to contact partners for additional support packages after Russian strikes on energy facilities
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held a meeting with officials about the situation in the regions, and primarily in the energy sector, after today’s Russian strike.
"This was a targeted strike against the energy sector, and a record number of ballistic missiles. In fact, the Russian army took advantage of the American proposal to put strikes on a short-term pause not in order to support diplomacy, but in order to simply accumulate missiles and wait for the coldest days of the year, when temperatures in a significant part of Ukraine are -20 Celsius and below," Zelenskyy wrote in the Telegram channel.
He said in this strike alone there were 32 ballistic missiles, another 11 missiles of other types that approach the target along a ballistic trajectory, 28 cruise missiles and 450 strike drones, most of which are "shaheeds". A significant part was shot down, but not all.
According to the president, there are hits on energy facilities in several regions, and the greatest damage is in Kharkiv, Dnipro, Kyiv and Kyiv regions, Vinnytsia and Odesa regions, and Zaporizhia.
"Now all necessary forces have been involved, and I have instructed the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the government in general to provide equipment from reserves, as well as urgently contact partners regarding additional support packages. I am talking about this in detail with Mark Rutte now," Zelenskyy said.
In addition, repair and emergency crews are working in all cities and communities where necessary, and all resources of energy companies are involved.
The situation with heating is difficult in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and also in Lozova in Kharkiv region.
"There are separate tasks for the Ministry of Defense and the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. I expect the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and our entire diplomatic corps to work as actively as possible to inform partners about what is happening and to organize sufficient support for our people, for our country. Each such strike by Russia confirms that the attitude in Moscow has not changed: they still count on war and the destruction of Ukraine and do not take diplomacy seriously. The work of our negotiating team will be adjusted accordingly," the president said.
