Atlasjet Ukraine welcomes Infrastructure Ministry's proposal to fly from Lviv

Atlasjet Ukraine (Lviv), a subsidiary of Turkey's Atlasjet Airlines, has welcomed the proposal of the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry for it to operate flights from Lviv.

"If we have a chance to build the country's independence and fair market rules in a particular city, we will be happy about this little hope for such a right. Looking at Lviv, then Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv might follow," Atlasjet Ukraine CEO Serhiy Podhorodetsky told Interfax-Ukraine.

He said that Atlasjet Ukraine is the base airline for Lviv airport and had previously intended to operate flights from Lviv.

"But, much to our regret, we still cannot exercise our full activity due to the State Aviation Service blocking legal acts, which should regulate the rules for providing and revoking permits for air routes. This situation appeared due to the conflict of interest between the State Aviation Service and the Ministry of Infrastructure," the CEO said.

According to Podhorodetsky, the service started to claim the ministry's authority, although the corresponding changes have not been made to either to the Air Code of Ukraine or the position in the Infrastructure Ministry, thereby complicating the rules for the industry.

"Without solving the conflict of interest and returning the service's activities to legality, with all respect to the minister, it will be difficult to realize his desire to improve the situation in civil aviation in at least one Ukrainian airport," he said.
