The Under-16 European Basketball Championship 2013 in Kyiv was the best tournament in the history of such events and was organized at a very high level, FIBA Europe Secretary General Kamil Novak has said.

"This tournament was the best in the history of the U-16 European Basketball Championships. The local organizing committee has introduced a lot of know-how, which raised the tournament to a new, much higher level," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Sunday.

Director of U16 EuroBasket 2013 Markiyan Lubkivsky, for his part, said that while preparing for the championship, the local organizing committee used experience from hosting the Euro 2012 European Football Championship.

He said that the matches of the tournament were attended by nearly 23,000 spectators. Daily broadcasts on the Internet attracted from 10,000 to 51,000 views, and the share of the television audience of the games shown on the Ukrainian National Television Channel reached 1.5% (Ukraine-Italy match).

President of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine Oleksandr Volkov said hosting the U16 EuroBasket 2013 had been a valuable experience for Ukraine.

"The tournament lived up to expectations. Ukrainian fans for the first time saw Europe's 16 best youth teams live. We are grateful to the Ukrainian fans for their active support of our team in Kyiv's Sports Palace," he said.

The U16 European Basketball Championship 2013 was held in Kyiv's Sports Palace from August 8 to August 18, 2013. Sixteen European teams took part in the tournament.
