EuroBasket 2015 Tournament Director Markiyan Lubkivsky has reminded investors in the construction of arenas of the need to observe deadlines.

"There is a common problem, which is now the number one topic on the table of Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul – this is the pace of construction of arenas. If we want to successfully host the tournament, the arenas must be commissioned on time. I don't want to dramatize the situation, but my role as tournament director is to monitor and signal the need to accelerate the pace of construction work. We still have enough time to build the arenas, but at the same time, the period from September 2013 should become an active stage of construction work," he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.

Lubkivsky said the slow pace of construction was a common trend at all of the arenas.

"I would not single out anyone today. Initially, we had favorites in terms of the preparation of documents, at the beginning of construction, but now all of the arenas are at more or less the same level of readiness, so the pace of construction has to be greatly accelerated," he said.

As reported, in June 2013 the EuroBasket 2015 local organizing committee signed protocols of intent with all investors in the construction of arenas that are to host the matches of the European Basketball Championship in 2015.

All companies provided documentary evidence of their intentions to build the arenas in Kyiv, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa.

VETEK is building Kharkiv Arena Ltd., DeVision - Kyiv Arena on Stolychne Highway in Kyiv, and the Donbass Hockey Club – Kalmius Arena in Donetsk. United Basketball Investments (UBI) is planning to build multipurpose sports arenas in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv.

On December 18, 2011 Ukraine received the right to host the European Basketball Championship in 2015. The matches of the tournament should be held in Kyiv, Lviv, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk.
