The construction of multipurpose arenas for the EuroBasket 2015 European Basketball Championship in Lviv and Odesa will begin in July this year, Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul hasa said.

"Ukraine is already building four multipurpose arenas. In particular, this May the president placed a capsule in the foundation of the arena in Dnipropetrovsk and the prime minister placed a capsule in the foundations of the arena in Kyiv. Construction work in Odesa and Lviv begins in July, and the necessary drilling and surveying work is currently being conducted," he said at an international business conference "ABC: Ukraine & Partners" in Kyiv on Friday.

Vilkul said that EuroBasket 2015 arenas would be built using the funds of private investors - about UAH 3 billion - and that the government would help them pay off interest on loans as part of public-private partnerships.

He also noted that UAH 1.5 billion in private investment would be spent on the construction of airports in Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa.

Vilkul added that the construction of terminals at these airports had already begun.

In addition, he said that as part of preparations for EuroBasket 2015, Ukraine is implementing a program for the development of basketball in Ukraine, and that for these purposes it is planned to build more than 2,000 modern playgrounds for basketball and streetball in almost all cities in Ukraine.
