Ukraine leaders congratulate compatriots on Unity Day

Ukraine's leaders have congratulated their compatriots on Unity Day, which is marked on January 22.

"We are all different, but we share common values, common ideals and aspirations. We are a big strong family of all Ukrainian citizens – from west to east, from north to south. Ukraine is indivisible and united!" the head of state wrote on his Facebook page on Monday.

Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, in turn, noted that unification had been made possible through the Unification Act, which was proclaimed on Sofiyska Square in Kyiv in 1919.

"The leaders of ZUNR and UNR dreamt of uniting separated Ukrainian lands into one state for many years, and on January 22, 1919, it became a reality," Groysman wrote on Facebook.

"United and independent. Then, now, and forever! Glory to Ukraine!" he wrote.

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy noted that the Reunification Act had united the east and west of Ukraine forever.

"This act showed not only the unity of Ukrainians in one single state, but also their awareness of themselves as a single nation, a single indivisible country," he said.

At the same time, he said that history repeated: "The age-old enemy of our independent state - Russia - again raves about the enslavement of Ukraine."

He expressed confidence that now "no one will ever separate us." Parubiy urged Ukrainians to unity, "the creation of a powerful and prosperous country for the free and dignified life of every Ukrainian."
