Saakashvili doing well despite hunger strike - associate

Mikheil Saakashvili, leader of the Movement of New Forces and former president of Georgia, is feeling well, Yuriy Derevianko, his associate and an independent deputy in Ukraine, said.

"He feels fine and full of energy despite being on hunger strike," Derevianko told reporters in the morning near Kyiv's Pechersky District Court, where Saakashvili is now located.

"He is continuing to protest and fight against the corrupt officials and bandits who are now trying to isolate him from society in this manner. Therefore, he is not complaining about anything. Although you understand very well that it's been more than 48 hours that the man has not eaten anything," Derevianko said.

According to earlier reports, the Pechersky District Court is expected to decide on Saakashvili's arrest on Monday afternoon.

Saakashvili was detained in Kyiv on the evening of December 8 and was placed in a temporary detention facility of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv. Saakashvili then went on hunger strike.
