Poroshenko hails Merkel-Macron statement on Donbas school truce compliance
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has welcomed the German and French leaders' statement urging the sides to comply with a truce declared in Donbas due to the start of a new school year.
"I welcome the statement of the leaders of Germany and France insistently calling first and foremost on the president of Russia, as the aggressor country, and the sides in the conflict to ensure a ceasefire due to the start of a new school year," Poroshenko said on his Facebook page on Monday evening.
The Ukrainian president said that he had ordered the administration of the Ukrainian Security Service to continuing abiding by the declared truce.
Poroshenko also said that he had discussed issues concerning compliance with the truce at a meeting with Ukraine's top military officials in Kramatorsk on Monday.
"The truce on the occasion of the start of a new academic year should become comprehensive, creating favorable conditions to promote the peace process with the aim of restoring Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said.
