Poroshenko: Next parliament election should be held in 2019
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said that the next parliamentary election in Ukraine should be held in 2019.
"The parliament should conduct its next parliamentary elections in 2019," the president said in an interview with Ukrainian television channels on Wednesday evening.
Ukraine ought to use the time left before the election to implement some essential reforms, he said.
"Considering that, under the constitution, a decision on calling an early parliamentary election and dissolving the parliament rests solely with the president of Ukraine, I want to calm down those opposition members and point out that I will not give them the gift of early parliamentary elections, which would be in Russia's interests, as it is interested in destabilization of the situation," he said.
