Kyiv insists on fair, free elections in certain Donbas districts - Poroshenko
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that elections in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions will give the districts legal representatives, and he stressed the importance of the elections being fair.
"The amendments to the legislation foresee that these laws [adopted by the parliament on March 17] will come into force after the elections take place, and on their results we'll get legally elected representatives of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, with whom we'll together determine the future of this region. The second thing that makes Russia nervous a lot is our demand for these elections to be fair and free, matching international standards," Poroshenko said during a meeting with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland in Kyiv.
