The new state drugs procurement scheme via international organizations will start working in early 2015, which will allow avoiding a shortage of drugs bought under state programs, Health Minister Alexander Kvitashvili has said.

"We'll switch to the new procurement system from 2015. It is not so easy, taking into account the fact that the laws should be changed and agreements should be signed to have direct purchases and talk to UNICEF. I think that in February or March first contracts should appear which will give us a guarantee that in 2016 there will not be problems with a shortage of drugs," he told reporters on Thursday.

Kvitashvili said that the agency which will have functions of state procurement from the Health Ministry could start operating from January 1, 2016.
