Only Ukrainians should decide on early elections in their country, says Ashton's spokesperson
Maja Kocjancic, the spokesperson for EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, European Commission Vice-President Catherine Ashton, has said that only Ukrainians can decide whether to hold early elections in the country.
Kocjancic said this at a press briefing in Brussels on Tuesday when asked if the high commissioner considered early elections as a way out of the political crisis in Ukraine.
"We need to see a political solution. Of course there are clear elements that this solution needs to contain. We talked about elections that need to be free and fair but for when they take place this is something that is for Ukrainians to decide," she said.
The EU foreign policy head will pay a visit to Kyiv on February 4-5.
