Four-party meeting on Ukraine planned at level of foreign ministers - EU spokesperson
A meeting of the EU, the United States, Ukraine and Russia is envisaged as consultations between foreign ministers, Maja Kocijancic, spokeswoman for EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton has said.
At a briefing in Brussels on Wednesday Kocijancic was asked to comment on the Regions Party's desire to participate in these talks to represent southeastern Ukraine.
"As far as I am aware, we are talking about a meeting at the level of foreign ministers of the four sides – the EU, the U.S., Ukraine and Russia," Kocijancic said.
Russian ambassador to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov, speaking at a hearing at the European Parliament in Brussels on April 9, said that "there is a fundamental understanding of the holding of a ministerial meeting between Russia, the European Union, the United States and Ukraine."
"The main question is who represents Ukraine? The Kyiv authorities, let's be honest, cannot represent the whole of Ukraine," he said.
