Referendum may amend constitution, not adopt new one, says Kravchuk
According to the Ukrainian legislation, a national referendum may be called to amend the Constitution of Ukraine, and not to adopt a new one, Ukrainian President (1991-1994) Leonid Kravchuk has said.
"If we spoke about amendments [to the constitution], then I wouldn't mind, but a new constitution [cannot be adopted at the referendum]. This is envisaged by Section XIII [on the procedure for amending the Constitution of Ukraine]," Kravchuk said at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday.
