Sport Ministry orders to pay state reward of $125,000 to freestyle Olympic champion Abramenko

 Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Ihor Zhdanov has announced the signing of an order to pay a $125,000 reward to Ukrainian athlete Oleksandr Abramenko, who won a gold medal in freestyle at the 23rd Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

"On my instructions, the Ministry of Transport issued an order to pay the Olympic freestyle champion Oleksandr Abramenko a state compensation of $125,000 in national currency at the rate of the NBU (in hryvnias). The funds will be promptly paid to the athlete on his card account. Thank you for your victory for Ukraine in Pyeongchang," wrote the minister on Twitter on Tuesday.

Zhdanov also published on his Twitter account the relevant order of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine dated February 19, 2018, signed by Acting Minister Mykola Danevich.

As reported, on February 18, 2018, Ukrainian freestyle skier Oleksandr Abramenko won the gold medal in the men's aerials at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang (South Korea). This is Ukraine's first medal at the Olympics in Pyeongchang. In addition, Abramenko has become the first man who won a gold medal at the Winter Olympic Games in the history of independent Ukraine.

Ukrainian-Russian businessman Pavel Fuks decided at the expense of his own funds to finance the payment of additional $50,000 in prize money for Olympic gold, $25,000 for silver, and $15,000 for bronze. "According to the previously announced motivation program for athletes, who represent Ukraine in Pyeongchang, Oleksandr Abramenko and his trainer Enver Ablaev will receive $50,000 each from me. I am proud of the whole Ukraine!" he wrote on Telegram.

The 23rd Winter Olympic Games are held in Pyeongchang from February 9 to February 25.
