Ukrainian team wins 9 awards, including one gold on first day of Rio Paralympics
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has congratulated Ukrainian athletes on their first gold medal at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.
"I congratulate Ukrainian Paralympians with their first gold in Rio! Yevhen Bogodaiko has won in 100 meter breaststroke. All in all, our boys and girls got on the medals stand nine times on the first day of the games!" the president wrote on his Facebook page.
"Well done! Ukraine is cheering for you!" Poroshenko said.
On September 8, the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, hosted the opening ceremony of the 2016 Summer Paralympics, which will be held until September 18. Ukraine has sent the largest team in its history to these games - 155 athletes, who will compete in 14 sports.
