Metalist Kharkiv to fight for getting into Champions League group stage
Metalist Kharkiv has for the first time in history won the right to fight for getting into the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
Myron Markevych's side beat Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk 2-1 at home on May 19 and secured second place in the table. Metalist's opponents in the fight for second place, Dynamo Kyiv, suffered a 2-3 defeat in Simferopol.
Thus, after 29 rounds of the 30-round championship, Metalist scored 65 points and is six points ahead of Dynamo (59 points). Metalist for the first time became the silver medalists of Ukraine. The club earlier finished third for six consecutive years.
Dynamo, for the first time in many years, was deprived of any chance to play in the Champions League.
