FIFA president opposed to organizing CIS soccer championship

FIFA President Sepp Blatter at a press conference in St. Petersburg said that holding a CIS soccer championship is impossible and advised the head of the Russian Football Union Nikolai Tolstykh to do everything to preserve the Russian championship.

The Championship of the Commonwealth is a wrong decision, it can destroy the FIFA pyramid and cause enormous damage to the solidarity inside of the family, he said adding that he wanted to advise Tolstykh to be an advocate of his own championship and forget about all other leagues. He referred to the idea of holding a joint championship of teams of former Soviet republics.

The leaders of Zenit, CSKA and Anji football clubs have started implementing the idea.

FIFA is absolutely uninterested in this competition, Blatter said.
