Mykhailo Fomenko appointed head coach of Ukraine's national football team

Mykhailo Fomenko has been appointed as the new head coach of Ukraine's national football team.

According to an Interfax-Ukraine reporter, the executive committee of the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) approved this decision on Wednesday.

The FFU signed a contract with Fomenko for one year and could be prolonged by two years.

Another candidate for the position, Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson, did not come to the meeting of the executive committee.

Fomenko, who is 64 years old, chaired the committee of national teams and headed the coach council of the FFU since September 2012.

Over the years of his coach career, he worked with FC Dynamo Kyiv, Guinea national team, FC CSCA Kyiv, FC Metalist Kharkiv, FC Tavriya Simferopol, and Russian FC Salyut Belgorod.

Ukraine's former coach Oleg Blokhin resigned in late September and accepted the job of head coach at Dynamo Kyiv.
