Zelenskyy at Munich Security Conference: Putin is able to continue the war

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky called on the world not to ask Ukraine when the war will end.

“Ask yourself why Putin is still able to continue [prosecuting the war],” he said at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.

“If we do nothing now, Putin will be able to make the next years catastrophic for other nations as well. Intelligence knows about this,” he noted.

Zelenskyy called for doing everything possible to defeat the aggressor.

“Please remember, everyone, that dictators don’t go on vacation. Hatred knows no pause. Enemy artillery is not silent due to procedural troubles. Warriors opposing the aggressor need sufficient strength,” the president said.

Zelenskyy also urged not to be afraid that Putin will lose. “Putin is a threat to all free peoples. And so, for those who haven’t heard yet: Putin is a monster who invaded Ukraine and killed thousands and thousands of people, kidnapped and deported at least tens of thousands of Ukrainian children,” Zelenskyy said, adding “Putin massacred the Chechens and Syrians; invaded Georgia; ordered the execution of his opponents both outside the Kremlin walls and in the center of London and Berlin; and so, just yesterday he tried to send us all a clear signal when the Munich Security Conference opened - Putin killed another opposition leader.”

Zelenskyy said that considers it necessary to close all the holes in the sanctions against Russia. “And there should not be such sectors of the Russian economy that are involved in its aggression, but are free from sanctions. This concerns, first of all, the nuclear industry,” he said.

“Russian assets already frozen must be confiscated. And we need to go further - to find, freeze and reliably pacify every dollar accumulated by Putin and his friends,” he said.

Zelenskyy noted that the success of the space of freedom in the world depended on the role of the United States.

“And it was all the more successful the bolder and more active America was, along with others, on the bright side of history. The world would have long been divided between the dreams of several dictatorships if it were not for the American Dream, which always left enough space for human dreams. Important decisions are made in the unity of the whole world, including the United States,” he said.
