Statement on US participation in security guarantees is success, but talks still far from over - Tusk

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk believes that the peace talks in the Russian war against Ukraine are still far from being completed, but Russia cannot be allowed to dictate the terms of peace.

"After night talks with the leaders of European countries, one thing is certain: the West and Ukraine will lose this confrontation if Russia can divide us and dictate the terms of peace," he said on X on Monday.

However, in his opinion, the statement on the participation of the United States in security guarantees is a success. "But the negotiations are still far from being completed," Tusk added.

As reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, after a meeting with Donald Trump, said that the draft agreement on ending the Russian-Ukrainian war currently provides for security guarantees for Ukraine from the United States for 15 years with the possibility of extending this period, but US President Donald Trump promised to consider the possibility of providing such guarantees immediately for 30-50 years.

It was also previously reported that French President Emmanuel Macron announced plans to hold a meeting of the "Coalition of the Determined" countries in Paris in early January, where they plan to finalize the specific contributions of each state to the system of security guarantees for Ukraine. As reported, Zelensky and Trump met in Florida for peace talks, with Trump immediately warning that he would call Putin after the conversation.
