Von der Leyen: new sanctions package against Russia will not be our last sanctions
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen assures that the new package of sanctions proposed by the European Commission against Russia for its war against Ukraine will not be the last sanctions.
Speaking in the European Parliament on Wednesday, the President of the European Commission informed the deputies about the latest proposals, among which, in particular, is a proposal to introduce a ban on buying Russian coal. "These sanctions will not be our last sanctions. Yes, we will ban coal imports, but now we have to look into oil and revenues the Russia gets from fossil fuels (oil and gas). This will be our next step that we will take," she said.
The President of the European Commission is convinced that the EU must get rid of "our dependence on (Russian) fossil fuels, and for this we must diversify supplies." She called the supply of liquefied natural gas from the United States and the transition to green energy such diversification.
